In the community
Giving back to our communities
Sure is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen across the islands in which we operate, and we deliver on this commitment through a series of community and charitable programmes.
Our community programmes ensure we are part of island life and support events that have local appeal, creating large community events which give islanders experiences they wouldn’t usually get.
Good examples of our programmes in action include the Isle of Man TT, Sure Big Screen, Sure Comedy Festival, Sure Skate and, since 2013, the Big Gig in the Park an event with huge community appeal which donates profits to two local charities.
In 2012, the Sure Foundation was established as a recognised charity with a committee made up of staff from across the organisation and since launch the Foundation has donated over £100,000 to over 50 Bailiwick charities.
The Foundation considers projects where the benefit to the recipients can be identified and demonstrated clearly and immediately - for example the The Admiral de Saumarez Trust regeneration of Delancey Park project. The Foundation helps fund projects from all types and scales of charity, including well-known charities such as Cheshire Homes, the Samaritans and GSPCA as well as lesser known charities such as Wigwam - a registered charity that offers help, support and networking to families in Guernsey with children who have disabilities.
The Foundation also recognises that charities and community groups need volunteer time almost as much as they need money. It therefore arranges regular opportunities for our staff to take time out of the business and contribute in a tangible way to charitable or community groups. So far, our staff have donated over 150 man hours to local community groups with activities such as beach cleaning and clearing the islands’ headlands, which also contributes to managing our environmental footprint.
Sure also supports a variety of clubs, charities and other organisations with one-off donations to help with their fund-raising, as well as supporting their telecommunications needs. By donating telecommunications equipment or funding their communications, we enable these organisations to use technology in support of their charitable aims. Examples of this include providing mobile phones to a local care-giving charity and a domestic abuse prevention charity which can have volunteers on call 24/7. We also provided mobile broadband to a charity which visits vulnerable and elderly people in their homes - helping their clients to use the internet to keep them connected with their families around the world.
The Sure Foundation and our support of community events form the backbone of Sure’s CSR programme, ensuring we continue to fulfil our commitment to be a responsible corporate citizen.
